Honestly, I can't tell you which is better for your contest. However, I like the squirrel. He's got a smirk on his face that suggests he knows something we don't. Some people can't handle that thought. Me...I'm used to the idea.
I prefer the "feed me" one - it's a more interesting concept in my opinion. "Woodland Tales" isn't bad - don't get me wrong, but that concept for a fabric design is one I've seen to an extent before, and the squirrel one is different.
In a sense of usability, however, I will say that the "Woodland Tales" is perhaps... more "marketable."
Thanks for your insights! Great feedback. Since I'm trying to decide which to enter in a contest, rather than which to use for a project, it's good to know my squirrel is interesting.
It's just the weekly fabric contest at Spoonflower.com. A varied audience that seems to really like cutesy things, but not always. I have a hard time gauging my fellow fabric designers because they often vote one way, but then things will change abruptly depending on the theme.
"Woodland Tales" seems to fit in more with the type of prints showcased by the group than "Feed Me" does, taking into account that it is a better pattern and can loop more efficiently.
The square borders in "Woodland Tales" are too sharp in my opinion, though, to be used as a final, fun corners and borders that are more rounded would work better if you choose to go with that fabric ultimately.

Just my two cents

I'd be glad to do so anytime!
