News or journal makes no difference to me but the News Article has the advantage that it can be faved. I prefer it when the same thing that had been said in a News Article is not repeated in a journal or vice versa. There is just not enough time to open and or read things twice imho.

I think they should be able to go wherever the submitter chooses - it's too-rigid categorisation that causes most of the world's problems, so a little relaxation is welcome :D

News articles are great when they are lesser known artists, and not your own stuff! :D DA admin does a good job in featuring artists...but we can all do our own part when it comes to finding good artwork. After all there are more of us than there are Admins! Then there is the fact that everyone's tastes are different, so different types of artwork is picked by different people.

So to make it short...if you find an artist that is unique and doesn't have skiddieight million views, a news feature would be great for them and the rest of us!

I enjoy them as news since you can :+fav: it whereas you can't :+fav: journals.

I say they count as news because this gives them more exposure, which is good, especially for unknown artists. But putting them in your journal is good as well, since loads of people watch you and everyone likes those features. :)

I picked "Yes, if they are relevant by a topic or if they are lesser known artists.", but in all honesty, "they are lesser known artists" shouldn't even be in there, in my opinion.

I can see how an art feature would be relevant if the topic needed to show a piece of art. For example, suppose that a news article was written to teach people how to do a certain style of art, fractal or not. If people try what it says and then come back to look at the news article, there are no pictures to compare with. So, in this case (and a couple other cases I won't talk about), art features would be needed for the good of the news article as a whole if it helped make the news article more clear.

The same thing does not apply to "art feature" news articles, however. I find it very weird when I go through the news categories and see something along the lines of "BLACK/WHITE FEATURES!!!". I'll click it and notice that all there is to this news article is a bunch of pictures and maybe a little bit of irrelevant typing stating that these pictures are the features (which the person basically said in the news title, go figure).

To me, this is like posting a news article and telling everyone "Hey guys and girls, look what pretty things I found!". News articles are not show and tell sessions, plain and simple. I'm not going to go to my city's local newspaper station and ask them to put an article in their people showing fractals I like. That's just absurd. To put it short, keep these features in your journal.

Now, to be honest, I love Apoholics Anonymous. I think it's great and the fact that I get to choose stuff now is great. I'm biased, obviously, but I'm going to make an unbiased question. Should clubs make news articles that are basically the same as these "art features" or not? And if so, why should it be different? I have no clue. I wouldn't want Apoholics Anonymous to go away, but then again, I wouldn't mind if it was in a journal.

That's really why I was asking. To what extent is dA news "NEWS" like newspapers and to what extent is it what's "news" to people at dA? Thanks for your well reasoned response.
